Sample Announcements
Sample Announcement letter to employees:
Once again, it is time for the Back-to-School Drive program. Within this program the Family Giving Tree aims to help thousands of students from low-income families throughout the Bay Area get ready for the new school year. This effort is all about providing kids with the tools they need to succeed in school and it felt like a perfect fit for <insert company name here>.
So, look in your closet for that box of pens you never used, clear out some of those spiral notebooks you have been hoarding, or take advantage of a sale at Target or Office Depot and help fill a new backpack with supplies & tools to ensure that these children will be ready and excited for school. Look for the yellow school bus posters around the <insert area here> or visit the Back-to-School website to learn more about the program. Our goal is to have <insert goal here> full backpacks ready by August 1st .
Thanks!
Christine with ASA sent this announcement!
ASA is partnering with the Family Giving Tree to fill backpacks with needed supplies for children in grades K-12.
When? July 10th through August 3rd, 2007.
Who receives a backpack? Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade who are on the free or reduced lunch program (Title 1) or clients of social service agencies. Children receiving backpacks are from families struggling to meet life's necessities of food and shelter. By providing a backpack and school materials, you will help low-income students start the new school year with confidence, armed with tools and a smile that can help them succeed.
Last year, the Back-to-School Drive provided backpacks and school supplies to 12,000 at-risk children.
This year the goal is to provide 13,500 low-income children with new backpacks filled with the tools they need to succeed!
There are several ways you can participate.
1) Buy a backpack and fill it
Please note: NO RED OR BLUE BACKPACKS for grades 2 – 12
Step 1: Select the grade level you would like to support from the list below.
- K-1 Grade Student
- 2-5 Grade Student
- 6-8 Grade Student
- 9-12 Grade Student
Step 2: Take a wish card from the poster located in each elevator lobby (taped to the Conference Room Directory). You may fill as many backpacks as you wish.
Step 3: Go shopping for a backpack and the items to fill it. (Your purchases are tax deductible.)
Step 4: Deliver all filled backpacks to HR (cube 1.3.095 – across from Ann’s office) by August 3rd.
Step 5: We will deliver all backpacks to the Family Giving Tree warehouse for distribution to children all over the Bay Area.2) NEW!! Buy a backpack through the online store!
Through the Family Giving Tree's Back-to-School Drive Online Store, you can help by providing low-income children with a new backpack containing tools they need to succeed! Just select a backpack from the list and add it to your cart. Once you've purchased the backpack, they'll make sure it goes to a child in need! Items purchased through the online store will be shipped directly to our processing warehouse. Our elves will sort and distribute these in August to low-income children throughout the Bay Area!
3) Make a monetary donation to help fund the Back-to-School Drive
In the Greater Bay Area, 212,695 children qualify for the California Free or Reduced Lunch Program (Title 1). At-Risk children who start the year off prepared are more likely to be confident and feel included in the community, which in turn helps them to learn. This is not just a giveaway; it is an investment in the future of these children and consequently our communities. An additional benefit is that most of us would like to lend a hand but feel powerless to do much. This program allows us to positively impact deserving individual children. You can make a tax deductible donation by mail (envelopes are attached to the wish cards), by phone, or online and they will purchase the items. $50 buys one backpack and fills it with supplies.
4) Volunteer your time

THANKS for caring!
Please know that you are making a difference to a child.
Hyperion Sent a Reminder!
This reminder was sent to all employees, reminding them to participate:
Thanks to everyone who has taken a Back-to-School Drive Pledge Card. Please remember to bring the backpack to the Cafe by July 28th. If you haven't yet taken a pledge card, there is still time to bring a smile to thousands of children right in our own community. With your help we can ensure that children whose families are struggling to meet life's basic necessities have the supplies they need to start the year off right.
Participation is easy -- just select a Back-to-School Drive pledge card off the poster in the lobby and shop for the items listed or make a cash donation using the envelope attached to the pledge card . You can print out a tax receipt for your purchase at www.familygvingtree.org/b2s/TaxReceipt.htm.
Cadence Made it Fun!
Kathy Wheeler, senior manager of Global Community Involvement shared with us that Cadence employees have competitive and compassionate spirits!
In 2005 they created a "Bury the CEO in Backpacks!" contest, where their two campuses will compete to bury a life-size cut out of their President/CEO Mike Fister in donated backpacks filled with school supplies for The Back-to-School Drive
The life-size photo/cut-out of Mike Fister is holding a sign that says,
1 Backpack - $50.00,
2 Backpacks - $100.00,
Burying the boss in backpacks - PRICELESS
The team who buries the boss in the most backpacks by Monday July 31st will enjoy an ice-cream sundae social event served up by Mike and other members of his management team.
Employees are reminded that companies like Cadence can bring their corporate community together and make a difference in their local community at the same time!
